dnsdomainname is not operational

Here is an example of the situation I am seeing: ns3.abs-comptech.com root [/root] dnsdomainname ns3.abs-comptech.com root [/root] hostname ns3.abs-comptech.com As you can see, the hostname command is fully functional, but the dnsdomainname is not returning anything.
