- Problems installing Audacity.
I've recently installed Mandriva 2006 from a DVD supplied with Linux Magazine and wish to install Audacity.
I could not find an Audacity RPM for Mandriva so I downloaded a gzipped source audacity-src-1.2.4b.tar.gz which by default ended up in the Documents folder.
I unzipped this into a new folder called temp (not really knowing where it should go officially)
According to the Readme file the next step is ./configure, however, when I tried to do this I received the following message:-
"error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH"
I am now well out of my depth and do not know how to get around this error.
Also I cannot find any help for "make" or "make install" - do I need to be in a particular directory to issue these commands, and do they require any parameters or a filename?
Also which folder should the executable audacity program be created in, and do I have to specify this anywhere?
Any assitance would be greatfully received.

- I'm sure it was on the DVD, but you would have better luck installing it from the
official RPM:
ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distributions/Mandriva/official/2006.0/i586/media/main/audacity-1.2.3-4mdk.i586.rpm
I would highly recommend that you visit http://easyurpmi.zarb.org , and configure
your system to use an official online repository. The additional jpackage and plf
repositories will also be of great benefit.
