-   Back when Mandriva 2005 LE was still in cooker, I tried out it's 64-bit version. It was noticebly quicker than the 32-bit version, but I had some problems running some 32-bit applications, even after installing the proper libraries. For instance, I could never get the latest version of Firefox from their website to run.

It also seemed to me that Mandriva wasn't using compat libraries (where the 32-bit library calls are redirected to the 64-bit libraries) but instead installed the full 32-bit libraries along with the 64-bit libraries.

Now I'm running Mandriva 2006, and I'm thinking about upgrading to the 64-bit version. I was wondering, has 32-bit compatibility been smoothed out? And does Mandriva now use compat libraries, or does it still use the full 32-bit libraries? Thanks.

-   It uses a combination of both. I've had no issues running Firefox and OO.org
under x86-64.
