JeffxxxPete_2072 : 06/11/04 03:38 AM : Incident created |
- I recently tried to install the new nforce driver 1-0.0292.run using the
2.4.21.0-13mdkcust kernel for Mandrake Linux 9.1, but receive the following
error: No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel. Unable
to build Nvidia kernel module. I used the --add-this-kernel switch to the run
command suggested by NVIDIA, which did not work. The kernel source should
point to the custom kernel. What steps should I take to correct this problem?
Thanks. Jeff

- Did you install the 'kernel-source' RPM for your custom kernel?
What is the output of 'rpm -qa|grep kernel'?

- We'll jump back a bit.
Did you compile your custom kernel as an RPM then install it, or did you 'do
it by hand', and not use an RPM?
In either case, you may be able to resolve your problem by renaming
'/usr/src/linux-2.4.21-0.13mdk' to '/usr/src/linux-2.4.21-0.13mdkcustom' and
changing the '/usr/src/linux' symbolic link to point to
'/usr/src/linux-2.4.21-0.13mdkcustom'

- I had to compile a custom kernel so I could install the ALSA driver hoping to get 5-channel sound. NVIDIA finally released a sound driver, but I think it only will work when initially opening KDE, GNOME, etc. I renamed the directory and changed the symbolic link which according to the .log file worked correctly, but I still receive the same initial error(s).

- By 'initial errors' did you mean the compile errors, or startup errors?

- I think the Nvidia drivers need the original kernel source in order to work, which is why I installed the ALSA drivers. Thanks for your assistance.
