- For me, there are 4 things that make Mandrake 'better' than other distros.
Each of these could, however, be viewed by different users as benefits for
their choice in distros. When push comes to shove, it's all about personal
preference.
1. Package Management: this goes beyond 'RPM vs Debs'. 'urpmi', the tool
Mandrake uses to keep the system up to date, is in my opinion far better than
any tool out there.
2. Default configuration for servers: Mandrakes default configurations are
designed to work 'out of the box' when an RPM is installed, usually by
autodetecting current system setups.
3. Cutting edge: With Mandrake Community/Official, Mandrake tries to stay
ahead of the pack, adopting new kernels, desktops, methods, as soon as
possible, while still maintaining stability.
4. Desktop agnostic tools: Mandrake doesn't 'play favourites' with Desktop
Enviroments, and designs their system control tools (mcc, drakconf, etc) to
work on and with all desktops.
