Growlor : 14/10/04 04:30 AM : Incident created
-   Dear Mandrake tech support,

I have a Sound Blaster Audigy card and am using the old Cambridge FPS2000
digital speakers with it. The speakers are connected via the proprietary
digital I/O cable that came with the speakers and I am able to get good sound
from the rear speakers and the subwoofer, but nothing from the front speakers.
I have looked at the mixer, but cannot find anything that looks like a
front/rear fade control. If I disable the "IEC958 optical raw" button, I get
sound from the front speakers, but the sound is very scratchy. Is there a fix
for this (or maybe just some simple setting I have overlooked?)

Thank you,
John

-   You could try running 'alsamixergui' to see if you can adjust the sound
properties with it (install the alsamixergui and alsa-utils packages if you do
not have alsamixergui).

Growlor : 15/10/04 01:33 AM : More info provided
-   Thanks for the help. I followed your suggestions and figured-out my problem:The proper setting is for me to disable the "IEC958 Optical Raw" setting either with Kmix or the ALSA mixer. I tried this before (as stated in the original help request) and got distorted sound. Apparently, the bass was turned-way up. I don't know if this is the default or if it was one of the settings I was tweaking trying to make it work. For some wierd reason, my speaker's seperation logic tries to pump the bass through the front speakers (and not the back) when this is set that way. So the real solution was to lower the bass to a little below mid level and disable the IEC958 optical raw setting. I will now request the incident be closed.

Thank you,
John Mathias

-   There is not alot of info on the SB Audigy/Live combined with Creative Lab's proprietary digital interface online, so every time I find something that helps I request that it be added to your support index. This is one such piece of information.
