- Hi, I am new to Linux and having a few problems getting going. Yesterday, I installed 8.1 on my old Compaq Presario 4780 (P200 MMX, 32 MB RAM) and had major problems. This doesn't really surprise me as that system is low on resources and also has many proprietary components (memory, bios, etc.). Today, I installed it as a dual-boot on my main machine (PIII 733, 322MB RAM) and things seemed to go fine up until the GUI tried to load on re-boot. At this point I see the rudimentary penguin graphic flash on and off repeatedly for a few minutes and then see the error: "Init ID "x" Respawning Too Fast. Disabled for 5 Min." I then have the obtion to login in a text format and can gain access to the # prompt, but I don't see the graphic login screen. Can you help? Thanks, Shaun Laughy

- Login as root at the console prompt, and run 'XFdrake' to reconfigure your video card. When it is done, log out, and login as a user and type 'startx'. If
everything works OK, on your next reboot, you should be greated with the GUI login.
