-   APIC stands for Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller. Basically, APIC is
implemented in the motherboard and must be supported by the operating system,
and it extends the number of IRQ's available. APIC is mandatory for
multiprocessor systems and can also be used in uniprocessor systems.

Since it may cause conflicts with some kernels, the option is there to turn it
off.

------
ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) is an open industry
specification co-developed by Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Microsoft, Phoenix, and
Toshiba. ACPI establishes industry-standard interfaces for OS-directed
configuration and power management on laptops, desktops, and servers.

Some video cards and laptop drivers in Linux have a problem with ACPI, so the
option is there to turn it off.
