-   If I were to install Wine onto Mandrake and then, using its capabilities, install DirectX would this then give me an equivalent of WineX?

I found that the WineX RPM that I have doesn't work at all but the plain old Wine RPM works fine... except with the DirectX programs.

-   No. If it where that easy, there would be no reason for WineX.

There are issues with WineX and the 2.6 kernel, so you might try downgrading
your kernel.
