-   How do you control which kernel modules are loaded at boot? Some unwanted modules are loading. Modprobe can be used to remove them, but how to stop them from getting loaded in the first place? Kernel 2.6.3.

-   Edit '/etc/modprobe.conf' and remove the unwanted drivers.

-   The modules I like to stop are ide_scsi, sd_mod, and scsi_mod, but I don't see them in either /etc/modules or /etc/modules.conf.

Closely related question - what modules should be loaded in order to write to a cdwriter with kernel 2.6.3? I read in menuconfig I think that ide_scsi should not be needed. True? I hope it's not needed because it prevents me from being able to play tunes and video from the drive.

jacendb : 23/04/04 07:53 PM : Reply received
-   That is right, instead of the ide-scsi emulation, the kernel 2.6 uses native
scsi emulation, so it uses some scsi modules for the CD-RW drives.

But I also want to know how to remove some modules, I have a ide-tape module
and I don't have a tape in my computer.

Bye!!

-   I found that I am able to write without ide_scsi using K3B, but had to upgrade to a more recent version. 0.11.9 is working for me.
