- First off, please excuse the simplicity of the question, as I'm mostly a Linux newbie.
I recently downloaded Thunderbird (KMail had some problems with IMAP). I extracted it into my home dir, and it runs from there, but I would like to put it in the "correct" place. Where should user-installed apps go?

- Apps that are going to be used only by one user should stay in the user
directory. If you want them to be 'system wide', they would go in '/usr/local/'
But, thunderbird is available as an RPM (the majority of 'high profile'
applications are available as RPMs, and RPMs are the preferred method of
installing software on Mandrake) and you should install that instead. It is
available from any contrib mirror. ie:
