- As root '/etc/rc.d/init.d/proftpd start'. You can also run 'drakxservices'
to enable it to start at boot.

- 8.2 is no longer supported, so finding a working mirror with a proftpd download
may be difficult. You can try
'ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distributions/mandrake/updates/' and see if they
have an 8.2 version of proftpd. Otherwise, you could also try wu-ftpd, or upgrade
to 9.2

- I have performed a Google serach and found the proftp package for Mandrake 8.xx on the following web site
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/75184/com/proftpd-1.2.4-3rph.i586.rpm.html
Then I put it in a repertory (does it matter which one ?) and try
rpm -i proftp*
Then I receive the error message during install of the package:
error : failed dependencies :
proftpd < 1.2.5-0.rc1.3mdk conflicts with setup-2.2.0-25mdk
Do i need a specific rpm option (there are so many) or doanload another rpm whose name is setup ?
Thanks for your advice. Jean-Louis

- I have made :
cd /usr/sbin
./in.ftpd -S
and it worked !
Not sur it this is due to install of wu-ft^or not, but in any case this is OK.
Thanks for your help.

- The version you found was a RedHat version.
You can use 'drakxservices' to start and stop any service.

- I have performed my backup on another PC.
So when my PC will be repaired, I'll be able to install my 9.2
