-   I am having trouble installing either 9.2 (for i586) or 9.2rc1 (for AMD64) on my athlon 64 system. 9.2 will install but the graphical interface does not work. 9.2rc1 will only install in text mode (and then the gui will not work). I have downloaded the nvidia drivers (both for ia32 and amd64) and neither one works. Any ideas?

-   Try unplugging any USB devices you have to fix the install problem (if they are keyboard/mouse,
plug them in with a PS/2 adaptor).

The NVidia AMD64 driver does not appear to be working right now. This is currently being
discussed on the cooker-amd64 mailing list.

-   No USB devices plugged in when trying the install. I have my mouse and keyboard plugged in as PS/2. As I said, I can use the 9.2 (i586) cds and get the install to work but then the gui part of the system won't work on reboot (with nv or nvidia drivers). With the 9.2rc1 cds (no hardware changes at all), the gui installer won't work at all.

-   I've tried adding this to the 9.2 startup and that definitely doesn't seem to help there. I still need to try adding for the 9.2rc1 install. I'm wondering if this could be related to the fix in 2.4.23 that mentions AGP support for the K8 chipset (my motherboard is a gigabyte with a via K8 chipset).

-   I've now tried the linux noapic on the 9.2rc1 installer and it doesn't help. I am still having the same problem.

-   You aren't connecting to and LCD with DVI are you?

Can you give your full hardware specs for your AMD64 system?

And can you stick to using the AMD RC1 for testing purposes.

-   I am connecting via DVI. I had no problem with 9.2 (for i586) when I was using a regular Athlon. I switched my motherboard and CPU to the Athlon 64. I can install 9.2 (i586) fine but the GUI won't come up after the install. I cannot install with 9.2rc1 (amd64) with the GUI at all. I have a Gigabyte via K8 chipset motherboard with an Athlon 64 3200 . I have 1GB of DDR400 memory (OCZ brand). My video card is an Asylum Nvidia 5600 with VIVO. I am running two 145G hard drives and a DVD RW drive on my motherboard with all set up as masters. I am using one of the built in ethernet controllers to access the Internet. I also have a Creative Labs Audigy Platinum card and box in my machine. I have a few USB devices (scanner, two PDAs) that I have disconnected during install to see if that would help. My two printers are setup via the ethernet (I have a D-Link wireless router). I cannot think of anything esle as far as my setup goes. If I connect with the standard cable to my monitor, I do not get the over range error. I still have problems once the install is complete. This error does not occur with the 9.2 (i586) install.

-   Just to clarify, if you install 9.2rc1AMD64 with the CRT connection, you can get through the install
correct?

I had the same problem with 9.2rc1AMD64 and DVI. I did the install with CRT, then added
'Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP"' to the 'Device' section of XF86Config-4, and was able to use
the DVI - LCD after that. Taking a look at '/var/log/XFree86.0.log' may also help.

-   The 'Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP"' line didn't help. By connecting the analog, I can get through the install fine, but X (with DVI after install) just gives me a solid blue screen (even with that option). If I Ctl-Alt-Backspace, it turns my monitor signal off (I am able to Ctl-Alt-Delete reboot at that time though). I think that you mentioned that the AMD64 drivers from NVidia do not seem to work. Are you using any of their drivers at this time? I didn't know if that would help my situation or not.

-   Yes, I am using the NVidia AMD64 drivers. As far as I know, this is the only
way to get DVI to work. Here is the relevant section of my
'/etc/X11/XF86Config-4':

Section "Device"
Identifier "device1"
VendorName "NVidia"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce FX (generic)"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "DPMS"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP"
Option "NvAgp" "1"
Option "RenderAccel" "1"
EndSection

-   I tried those last parameters plus the NVidia AMD64 drivers and it seems to work now. Thanks!
