-   Hi,

i have 2 ethernet cards on my system : 1 physical interface and 1 virtual interface ! Both are configured to eth0 so i have conflicts out there and i have no way to update the configuration of my virtual interface !!! So how can i set my physical ethernet interface from eth0 to eth1 ?

Does anybody can help me out please ?

THANX

NB : i have declared eth1 in /etc/modules.conf and defined ifcfg-eth1 file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ and it is not working ... i think i have to assign my physical pci card to eth1 during boot but i don't know how to do this ...

-   Just so I'm clear here, are you trying to create a sub-interface for eth0? Or are you doing
something else?

If it is just a sub-interface (ie: so you can use a registered address and a non-routable address on
the same interface), you can accomplish it by doing the following:

Delete '/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1' and do:

# cd /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
# cp ifcfg-eth0 ifcfg-eth0:1

Then, edit 'ifcfg-eth0:1' and change DEVICE=eth0 to DEVICE=eth0:1 , then change the IP
address.

Restart networking with:

# service network restart

Then you should be able to see your new interface with:

# ifconfig

-   Hi to Linegod and to everybody else,

i use VMWare Workstation 4 and i have my virtual networking card bridged to eth0 ... when i run ifconfig as root i have : eth0 which is my virtual ethernet interface, ippp0 my ISDN adapter, l0 the loopback and vmnet8 the NAT interface installed by VMWare Workstation 4 ! All i want is to set up my physical interface to eth1 ... please note that i made an " alias eth1 eepro100 " command line in /etc/modules.conf file and that i defined an ifcfg-eth1 file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ but it is not working and i don't know why ... some ideas ?

Please help me out ...

THANX

Best regards

-   I don't have any useful experience with VMWare. You may be better off closing this incident, and
opening a new one, making a clear reference to VMWare.
