- what relational database capability comes with Mandrake 9.2? Anything with a visual development environment similar to Access, or Delphi?

- MySQL and PostgreSQL come with Mandrake. I don't know of any good GUI IDEs for RDBMs
for Linux, as most of the development is focused at web based applications. You might look at
phpMyAdmin, a web based database administration program. There is also mycc, a desktop GUI
database application.

cpututor : 26/10/03 07:42 PM : More info provided |
- I have recently come across (by Google search on the site) refernece to Kylix as something that is on Commercial Application CD 3. Not having purchased Mandrake9.2 yet, I'm not sure what this refers to, although I am somewhat aware of Kylix as having grown out of the Delphi environment (I think). When I try to click on the link for more info, I get an 'unable to open page' error referring me to mandrakesecure.com, which I am 'forbidden access' to.
Can anyone shed light on this? (before I contact Mandrake's own sales/support.

- you can try knoda (it is available on contrib repositories).
its a KDE front end to MySQL and PostgreSQL, very access like (but still lacks
a graphical query builder) and very easy to use IMO.
urpmi knoda
should install it for you
if you prefer gnome you might want to try mergeant (also in contrib) which is
similar to knoda, it offers more advanced options (as well as supporting more
type of databases) but is a bit harder to configure.
cheers,
Alaa
