- I have never used linux before and want to try it for a server I am setting up. I went to the web site to download it, however, I do not get a download window, just a explorer type window showing me the files???
How do I down load that? I tried cutting and pasting, but that does not work. I downloaded an FTP program, tried cutting and pasting the address from explorer browser to the FTP program, it says it is not a valid form of address.
It seems that the download is not as straight forward as it appears...

- Your question isn't quite clear, are you trying to download something from within
Linux, or are you trying to download the Mandrake Linux ISO from with Windows?

- Trying to download Mandrake...
When I go to the download site, I do not get the typical windows download window asking me if & where I want to save the file. I get an explorer type window showing me the files. I can not copy them or move them. I read over the download information, it says to download the files. Great! How???
I really want to learn the Linux system, I learn best by using the software first, or while I am trying to use it. Somehow my mind learns faster when I am "hands on" verses reading the book first. I did pick up a thick book on Linux, but after the 1st couple of chapters, I felt I need to get into the OS to really understand things. Besides, just when I started to get really sick of 2002, along comes XP & 2003. I feel like a Greyhound chasing a rabbit around a track..., updates, new OS, another worm/virus, another workstation with BSD, etc. Maybe it is just me! I either need to find a better OS, or a real good therapist.

- Well once you get to the FTP server, to two directories up, then enter iso
directory. You'll find CD images there. Currently 9.1 only, 9.2 will be
available later (assuming that you aren't registered at MandrakeClub)

- So if I double click on these FTP files while in and viewing them from IE, will they move over on to my CD, or do I have to do something to make it happen?

- Right click them and then select 'Save As'. Then, follow the directions that I
linked to for burning a CD. You have to have a CD burner for this to work.

- I was attempting to download the Mandrake program from the internet. After several days of fighting with it, I finally purchased the disk from ebay seller. So on to my next issue, I did get the program to intall on my first attempt on machine "A", however, I can not get it to install on machine "B". See my next support question I posted.
Thanks, Robert
