- I have a Sony PCG-C1VPK Picturebook with a Yamaha DS-XG Sound Card. The card appears to have been recognized, but I can not get sound to work.
Under HardDrake I get the following msg
Vendor: Yamaha Corporation
Model: YMF-754 [DS-1E Audio Controller]
Kernel Module: snd-card-ymfpci
Bus Type: PCI
Any Suggestions?
Thanks,
Tom

- Do you get errors when you try to play something (try XMMS). Have you checked your sound levels? 'K/Multimedia/Sound/Sound Mixer'

- Lingod,
I don't get an error when I try to play something. I've checked the sound
levels and they seem to be right (used gmix). I am able to use HardDrake and
configure the card and I can hear the msg get played to indicate success. But
when I play something I don't hear anything. I have a system beep, but cannot
get the gnome system sounds to work.
Under the OSS web site there is a note to the effect that Plug 'N Play needs
to be turned off under the BIOS. I have done that, but other than getting
the successful configuration msg I haven't had any luck.
When I open gmix the tap indicates "Asahi Kasei AK4543". Not sure what that
means - a sound card name?
Thanks,
Tom

- Getting closer. I found that under gmix all my settings were locked and I
couldn't adjust anything. So I went into root and was able to successfuly
adjust the sound. I found that PCM was all the way down, and when I turned
it up I was able to get an mp3 file to play.
Which file do I need to change permission on to allow users to adjust the
gmix controls?
Thanks,
Tom

- Add the users you want to have control over sound to the 'audio' group. Normally, they would be added, but you must have picked a higher security
level during install.
