-   Hi,

I'm trying to use telnet or ssh on my local network.

So I installed telnet-server & openssh-server packages.
It works fine when I login from the same machine (i.e. when I do telnet/shh 192.168.0.1 or 127.0.0.1 on the machine whose IP is 192.168.0.1), but connection is refused when I try to telnet from the other one (telnet 192.168.0.1 on the computer whose IP is 192.168.0.2).

I tried many xinetd.conf and xinetd.d/telnet files. I even tried to allow connections from any host (only_from=0.0.0.0/0 in both xinetd.conf and xinetd.d/telnet !), but the result is still the same : connection allowed only from the same computer.

Can anyone help me ?

Thanks in advance.

-   Do you have the firewall turned on? Do:

# tail -f /var/log/messages

And try to ssh from the other box. If the firewall is turned on, and denying
telnet, it will appear in the output above.

-   Well, since I had chosen the lower security level, I didn't think to check out the firewall... Done, and it works ! Thanks a lot.
