-   I want to change from the 3 button ps/2 mouse to a new USB wheel mouse

The Users Guide isn't much help. If I change the mouse and boot, it isn't recognised. If both are installed at bootup, Harddrak doesn't find the USB mouse when I select it.

It is a Microsoft Trackball Optical LVM, which I did get to work in SuSE 7.3 but the wheel doesn't work yet. I think I have to add the button lines to the Mouse section of XF86Config.

Is there a Utility to configure the mouse that I can run from a Terminal Window before X starts? I don't want to run Xconfigurator and lose the only correct window dimensions in 4 distros that are installed.

I should be using XFree86 4, and the mouse device in its config file is /dev/usbmouse. But only the PS/2 mouse works. So maybe I am in Ver 3. If so why? How would I change?

The software manager doesn't tell me which XF86 is installed. All distros still have a long way to go it appears. Isn't Kudzu supposed to find new Hardware on Booting. I see it is running.

What started as a simple question has become several and a gripe. Sorry.

Merv

-   Go to 'K/Configuration/Other/Mandrake Control Center' and then 'System/Services' and make sure USB is set to enabled at boot.

Reboot with the USB mouse and see if it detects it. If it does not, press 'CTRL-ALT-F1' to drop to a console, log in as root and run 'mousedrake' to
configure your mouse.

After you configure it, log out of the console (exit) and press 'ALT-F7' to switch back to the GUI. Use the dropdown box to restart X, and your mouse
should work.

30 Min service, fantastic.

I did it differently but mousedrake was the key and the new mouse is working along with its wheel. We are ahead of SuSE.

Many thanks
