rijones1 : 11/03/03 10:21 PM : Incident created
-   I have a digital camera Goodmans GDC1116STN. It works using Windows XP, and the drivers they supplied, and I am trying to get it to work on my Mandrake box.
When plugging it into the usb, I get the following output in the /var/log/messages file:
Mar 11 21:24:37 tiger kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus2/1, assigned device number 2
Mar 11 21:24:37 tiger kernel: usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x55f/0xc431) is not claimed by any active driver.

I expected it to produce devices sda0,sda1... in /dev/but there is only ever sda.

I have added the following line to /etc/fstab:
/dev/sda /mnt/camera vfat noauto,ro,user 0 0
and when I try to mount it I get the following error:
[root@tiger etc]# mount /dev/sda
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda,
or too many mounted file systems

I have tried changing the fstype to msdos and iso9660, but get the same error message.

Can anyone suggest what might be missing? I cannot find a website with any technical information or Linux drivers for the camera, but believe that if it is a scsi emulation, it should be mountable under Linux.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions that you might have.

-   suggest you type "auto" for fstype in your /etc/fstab and not vfat.
What's the next display ?

rijones1 : 14/03/03 10:48 PM : More info provided
-   [root@tiger camera]# mount /mnt/camera
/dev/sda: Input/output error
mount: you must specify the filesystem type

So unfortunately that doesn't sort it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

-   perhaps it'll helps,
you have more infos in Howtos :

hope it gives you solutions or new ideas

-   I have visited these websites, but neither can shed any light on why I am getting the error messages in the log as described above. They do confirm that the usb settings are correct though.

Thansk again for your help.

-   There isn't a driver for this - having contacted the company who made it, they have a non-open driver that doesn't use the usb drive standards, so requires a specific driver. They don't support linux, so I've given up as I don't have the skills (or their API) to write one myself.
