-   Hi everybody,
I already installed LM 8.1 three times and I still don't get any sound. The installer recognizes the sound chip correctly but after installation I can't get xmms to play mp3s. Playing directly from Audio-CDs work though. Using harddrake to configure just let's me waiting for endless minutes and doesn't give me any error messages. The same applies when using sndconfig. Also, xmms won't get me any error messages, it would just show the play sign and wait, not moving the counter from 00:00. Any ideas? Thanks in advance...
Marcio Cordero

-   Don't reinstall, it rarely, if ever, resolves a problem on a Linux box. Try disabling
Plug and Play in your BIOS and then try running 'sndconfig' from a command line, as
root.

-   I have an Insyde Software (SCU) BIOS and it doesn't have a PnP disabling option. The strange thing is that a friend of mine has this laptop and it worked flawlessly (even sound). If I try sndconfig as root the sound card gets recognized after a while but after I press to hear a sound, sndconfig does nothing for at least 20 min (after that I kill the program). As I said, the card is correctly recognized. Any ideas? What about the BIOS?
TIA,
Marcio Cordero
