-   When I try to install a package, it asks for cd#2 to be put into /dev/cdrom and opens the door on /dev/cdrom2. It of course can't find the package since it can't find the cdrom...

How do I explain to Mandrake that I have 2 cdrom drives and they should be treated individually?

Linegod_7611 : 28/11/01 07:28 AM : Reply received
-   Did you try putting it in both drives?

iplayfast : 28/11/01 07:55 AM : More info provided
-   Yes, It seems to open the door for one drive but read the other. I've since messed up the /dev/cdrom link, and don't know how to restore that. :(

I think my system is a bit screwy as far as cdrom orders are concerned, but it's nothing the software shouldn't be able to handle. I just don't know the commands to set up the links properly.

-   Hello,

this has to do with the links mandrake has created. Can you try putting the cdrom in the appropriate cdrom drive and install you packages.

Now that being said are they standard cdrom drives or is 1 of them a burned "cdr" if that is the case i would need more info if they are both standard cdroms.

To fix the first link for the cdrom you must do this.

logged in as user root you have to do the following.
>cd /dev
>ls -al cdrom*

Keep note of the info it shows you. and email me back so that i can tell you how to fix the appropriate links.

Best regards,

The technical support team.

-   Hello,

Can you try to mount the cdrom manually by trying the following commands.

>mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom

if this works then email me again so we can configure the links properly for your system.

also keep note of the following information as it is relevant in your case.

hda = primary controler master
hdb = primary controler slave
hdc= secondary controler master
hdd= secondary controler slave

so you might have to use the mount option as follows.
>mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdb /mnt/cdrom

-   mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom
and
mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdb /mnt/cdrom

both come back with
mount: mount point /mnt/cdom does not exist

if I do mount /mnt/cdrom
it works.

fstab currently has:
/dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom2 auto user,exec,nodev,nosuid,ro,noauto,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850 0 0
/dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom auto user,exec,nodev,nosuid,ro,noauto,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850 0 0

cd /dev
ls -la cd* shows:
lr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 16 Nov 30 03:18 cdrom -> ../cdroms/cdrom0
lr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 13 Nov 30 03:18 cdrom0 -> cdroms/cdrom0
lr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 13 Nov 30 03:18 cdrom1 -> cdroms/cdrom1

The first one is flashing red, and is one that I tried doing a ln -s cdrom /mnt/cdrom on.

-   Hello,

I have noticed that the following is a possible fix for the mounting issue.

try to issue the following command.

mount /cdrom this works on some systems for some reason.

-   "mount /cdrom this works on some systems for some reason." Isn't a good solution.

I've been able to get around the problem by (after doing the other suggestions) manually mounting and unmounting the cdrom. But it would be nice if the automount worked for my computer like it's supposed to.

-   Hello,

you must know that the supermount on Linux 8.1 is desactived because it don't work correctly with the kernel 2.4.8 and you must mount it every time that you want to access it.
