-   Newbie Linux user here.
Just set up Mandrake 7.02 on a 486 box. All is fine, except:
'login: root' rejects the root password, even though 'su' accepts it. This happens no matter what password I assign (I've tried 3 separate and rules-legitimate passwords).

Thanks,
Mike

-   What level is your security set to (msec)? Certain levels only allow root to login at certain terminals.

-   security level (i'm assuming the 'linuxconf' run level) is set to 3, out of choices 1-5.

-   That's not the security level, that's the runlevel (the level the system boots at). Use
'msec' to set your security level.
