-   After upgrading my kernel from 2.4.3 to 2.4.8 I seem to have lost the ability to use my cdrom and floppy drives. I can mount them at the command line as fixed disks but I need help in what files to edit to get the system to mount them at boot but not as fixed disks.

Thanks

-   Supermount does not work in the 2.4.8 series of kernels, and was disabled. Reportedly, it works in the 2.4.13 series.

-   Hello,

You can definitely upgrade your kernel 2.4.3 to 2.4.8 through internet
using the kpackage utility used as root and defining the right url
address in the resources. But take into account you will lose your
free install support for Mandrake 8.0. Consider to buy a pack and
be granted with the approriate support for Mandrake 8.1.

But in your case you must know that supermount is not install by default with the kernel 2.4.8

You must use the following command line:

mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
umount /mnt/cdrom

Best regards,

The technical support team.
Mandrakesoft.
