permissions constantly being reset

Seshouan : 18/11/02 04:56 AM : Incident created -   I set my mnt folder to be readable to other users, using chmod. but after a while the mode is automatically changed back to what it was, how does that happen? do I need to save some settings or something so that my chmod call is permanent? what can I do? Thanks
