- Hi, Mandrakes! Does somebody know what is the difference between two kernel packages: kernel-2.4.19.16mdk-1-1mdk and kernel-linus2.4-2.4.19-1mdk.i586.rpm ?
I need to install kernel that supports ip_conntrack module and software manager reports that this module is in the second package, while now I have the first one installed.
May I safely replace the packages without reconfiguring the system?
Is there any another way to load the ip_conntrack module to the currently installed kernel ?
Thank you.

- The easiest way to do this is to install the new kernel along side your
current kernel:
# rpm -ivh kernel-linux2.4-2.4.19.1mdk.i586.rpm
When you reboot, you will be given the option to boot 'linux' (the default,
your old kernel) or 2419-1 (or something similar). Boot with 2419-1, and if
there are no errors, you can switch the default via 'K/Configuration/Mandrake
Control Center/Boot'
You might want to check kernel-enterprise to see if it contains the correct
module also, as it will most likely work better. The kernel-linux kernel is
a 'vanilla' kernel with none of the Mandrake fixes.
