kwlam20 : 19/11/01 05:01 AM : Incident created
-   I cannot use my DVDROM in the mandrake. Everytime when I click the CDROM icon, the following appear: K error: unable to enter file:/mnt/cdrom/ You do not have access right to this location. My DVDROM is Matshita DVD-Rom SR-8583. What is the problem. Is it supported by the linux?
Also, I cannot use my modem in the linux system. Everytime, when I use the kppp, it said that the modem is busy. MY modem is flex56k v.9 HSP modem. Is it supported by linux? How can I connect to the internet?

-   You will have to install DVD software for your dvd to work. I've had the
best success with Ogle -
http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd/downloads.shtml

Is that a 'winmodem'?

-   But I cannot open the file on a CDROM such as mp3. Can I access the file in the CDROM after I install the DVD software?
Thanks.

-   I apologize, I was working on two DVD questions at the same time :) Try
opening up a console, log in as root (type 'su'), and then type:

# mount /mnt/cdrom
# cd /mnt/cdrom
# ls

-   First of all, I would like to find out whether my DVDROM is supported by linux. In fact, I cannot open any file on the DVDROM. Is it due to lack of software and I can use my DVDROM if I install the software? Thanks

kwlam20 : 21/11/01 06:05 AM : More info provided
-   I type in mount/mnt/cdrom but the following appear
bash mnt/cdrom: no such directory or file
What is the problem?

-   Looks like you missed a space between 'mount' and '/mnt/cdrom'

# mount /mnt/cdrom

kwlam20 : 22/11/01 02:18 AM : More info provided
-   I have typed mount /mnt/cdrom, then cd /mnt/cdrom, but the following appeared:
bash mnt/cdrom: input/output error.
I suspected that my dvdrom is not supported by linux. It is Matshita SR-8583. How can I check it? Is it possible to download some software that it can make it works, such as driver for it?
How can I check whether my modem is a winmodem? Anything else I can do to make my modem work?
