pischre : 30/09/02 10:45 PM : Incident created
-   I would like to upgrade my Apache to version 2 because the version that installed with Mandrake 9 was the old Apache 1.3. I read somewhere in here that I could find the latest version in the "contrib packages" What is the "contrib" package and how do I get there. Is that package just like an Update package that will automatically upgrade the old Apache 1.3? Or is that something I need to do a lot of work on, such as "gunzipping" and compiling to get it to install and work properly?

Why was the latest Apache 2 not installed with Mandrake 9?

-   A 'contrib' package is an RPM that is 'contributed' by a Mandrake user, and is not yet an
'official' Mandrake package. You can find 'contribs' under RPMS2 on Mandrake
mirrors. ie:
ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distributions/mandrake-devel/cooker/cooker/Mandrake/RPMS2

Apache2 was not installed with Mandrake 9.0 as it is fairly new, and does not have all
the 'extras' yet that Apache 1.3.26 has.
