benerb : 25/09/02 12:20 PM : Incident created |
- I just installed 9.0 RC3 and am trying to get my graphics to work (I have the Xig driver). I need help installing the kernel source tree to /usr/src/linux. I located the kernel-linus*.rpm on the CD but am unsure of how to unpack it. I have tried downloading a "vanilla" version from kernel.org, but I could not find the exact same version number. The drivers need the source code to work.

- Install the kernel-source* rpm and kernel-headers* rpm:
# rpm -ivh kernel-source* kernel-headers*
As a note, kernel-headers will not match the version on kernel-source or kernel, it is
supposed to be this way.

- I ran the command as listed; however, there was not a kernel-source*. I ran the command on the kernel-2.4.19.13mdk-1-1mdk file instead. It adds a boot option when I reboot, but no files are put in the /usr/src/ directory. Is there something else that I am missing. I have done this before with other versions of Red Hat, and have never had this much trouble. Thanks.

- You have to have kernel-source-(whatever version of kernel).rpm in the
directory you run the command from. The rpm should either be on the CD or
you can get it from http://rpmfind.net or a Mandrake mirror.

- I believe Mandrake neglected to bundle the kernel-source with RC3. After upgrading to 9.0 final I was able to find the necessary files and install my graphics card.
