-   I have downloaded the gcc-3.1 compiler and decompress the file. I would like to know how to install it and how to associate the gcc comands with the new compiler. (since many of the new programs will not compile with the gcc 2.6 that came with Mandrake 8.2).

-   Instead, why don't you download the gcc-3.2 compiler from a Mandrake Cooker
mirror, or install the gcc-3.1 RPM from 8.2
