celltech161 : 28/07/02 06:38 AM : Incident created |
- I was able to download and install Yahoo Messenger while logged in as root.
I was however not able to install it as a normal user. The setup file for YMessenger seems to quit part way through. What am i missing? I hope i don't have to stay logged in as root to use it.
Thanks.

- Can you run it from a console (open up 'konsole' and type 'ymessenger') and see
what errors it produces.

- Try doing it again, and see if you get a different output, and if not, try:
strace ymessenger

- When logged in as SU, running strace ymessenger yeilds this message at the end:
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation Fault) ---
killed by SIGSEGV
If I knew how to cut and paste from the console window i could show you the last few lines, if that would help.
Thanks,
Justin

- X's default is to cut highlighted text. If you highlight the text in the console with
your mouse, and then middle click (if you don't have a middle mouse button/wheel,
you can press left and right at the same time for the same effect) it will paste. You
can also highlight and press CTRL-C to cut, and then CTRL-V to paste (not the best,
since it will send CTRL-C to the console).

- I finally figured it out. I unchecked the stupid "Add Icon to Menu" and "Add Icon to Desktop" boxes for KDE and Gnome, and magically it installed and ran with no problems. Please forgive my "newbiness".
Now If i can get the text size in messenger larger.
Also thanks for the cut and paste tip. Works great!

- The problem was resolved by unchecking the "Add Icon to Desktop" and "Add Icon to Menu" boxes for KDE and Gnome. Imagine that!
