Problem mounting writing to new ext3 partition

gigatron2 : 13/07/02 05:43 PM : Incident created -   I have a big problem here, i was hoping to have this extra 4GB to install maya... now the thing is..i cant even mount it or write to it. Anywho I formatted it as ext3 and then made a folder in /mnt/ called datap then in control center i mounted it to /mnt/datap ... everything seems to work out when i do df it shows the space left and used but only root writes to it... and at the beginning it says cant mount file systems and also can't mount other file systems, so i have to mount throug hthat control center but either way cant write to it :X I added a thing to /etc/fstab its similar to /home except its hdb6 (the new partition) and its pointing to /mnt/datap please help :X
Linegod_7611 : 13/07/02 05:53 PM : Reply received -   Check the permissions on '/mnt/datap', by default they will be 755 (drwxr-xr-x), and you want to change it to 777 (drwxrwxrwx), so do: # chmod 777 /mnt/datap -R And just as a note, you can create the pointer name anywhere ie: it could have been /datap . This may be a better option, as it will avoid any conflicts with msec. ---- Note: If this answer resolves your question, please remember to close this incident.
gigatron2 : 13/07/02 07:37 PM : More info provided -   Alright I got around one thing and its that somehow just SOMEHOW it was ext2 not 3?! WTF! sorry for swearing buut damn what the hell was happening I DONT KNOW, so i formated again and mounted but then i went into console to test the findings and poof still access denied and it turns out that it wasnt again 777 so chmod'd and i tryed with my regular user to make a dir and i suceeded! I will try and see whether itll boot without those two [FAILED] now thanks i appreciate it :D I'll post my results
gigatron2 : 13/07/02 07:44 PM : More info provided -   Ok it seems to have mounted just fine :) I'm very happy, buut when i do df it shows that there is 33MB used? is that normal wtih EXT3? Thanks alot by the way.
