whre's the graphical desktop?

Lines in bold below have not yet been seen by the customer - those in blue are from the customer

bilgladstone : 02/07/02 07:01 AM : Incident created -   Now that I've installed the OS successfully, and pressed the reboot button after the CONGRATULATIONS screen, the machine boots but I end up after a while at a DOS-looking screen that says Mandrake Linux Release 8.2 for i586 Kernel 2.4.18-6mdk on an i586 / tty1 localhost login: [blinking cursor] How do I get a desktop up?
Linegod_7611 : 02/07/02 07:29 AM : Reply received -   Login into the console as root, and type 'XFdrake' to reconfigure your video card. At the end, when it asks if you want to boot up into graphical mode, select yes. Once you are done configuring X, log out of root, log back in as a user and type 'startx'. The next time you boot up, it should boot into graphical mode. ------ Note: If this answer resolves your problem, please remember to close this incident.
