pcdwarf : 08/06/02 08:59 PM : Incident created
-   how can I use Mandrake update ?

it ask me to configure the sources.
What are the url I must enter ?
(french mirror if possible)

Linux-phased : 08/06/02 09:43 PM : More info requested
-   Ok just define update source ftp:

ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake/updates/8.1/RPMS/

relative path :

../base/hdlist.cz

Now just use the view in installeable files and select alpabetical view and
show only updates

If this resolves your problem please remember to close the ticket and rate
the expert that helped you otherwise the incident will still show up in the list.

Thanks Linux-phased

pcdwarf : 08/06/02 11:47 PM : More info provided

-   Okay I know about that problem, you cannot do the regular update in passive
mode, so you have to do this:

Edit /etc/wgetrc

comment passive_ftp=on--> #passive_ftp=on

then command in konsole as root:

urpmi.addmedia --wget updates
ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake/updates/8.1/RPMS/ with ../base/hdlist.cz

now it should add the new source. the problem is, you still cannot use the
software manager to get the packages, so you have to use the softwaremanager
to just findout about the new names of the packages and then you get them with:

urpmi --wget nameofnewpackage

for instance you see the update package in softwaremanager named proftpd -->

urpmi --wget proftpd

pcdwarf : 09/06/02 12:12 AM : More info provided
-   ok for putting "passive ftp" as a comment

but...

urpmi.addmedia --wget updates
ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake/updates/8.1/RPMS/ with ../base/hdlist.cz

i've got

usage: urpmi.addmedia [--update] <nom> <url>
où <url> est l'un de
file://<chemin>
ftp://<identifiant>:<mot_de_passe>@<host>/<chemin> with <chemin relatif du fichier hdlist>
ftp://<host>/<chemin> with <relative filename of hdlist>
http://<host>/<chemin> with <relative filename of hdlist>
removable_<périphérique>://<chemin>

-   Well you just didn't type what I told you, paste and copy the line I gave you
exactly you might have forgotten the word updates.

This is one big line:

urpmi.addmedia --wget updates
ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake/updates/8.1/RPMS/ with ../base/hdlist.cz

pcdwarf : 09/06/02 12:37 AM : More info provided
-   I just copy-paste the line and get the same message
it seems that there is a problem with "update"
(may i use a "-" before "updates" ?)

pcdwarf : 09/06/02 12:46 AM : More info provided
-   and
for the next command

urpmi --wget proftpd
urpmi: unknown option "--wget", check usage with --help

Linux-phased : 09/06/02 12:46 AM : More info requested
-   well i just tried this on mandrake 8.2 and it works, maybe the 8.1 does not
have the option --wget, but that's hard to believe.

Did you write the whole line?

the ftp stuff is right after the add.urpmi line you don't just exectute:
urpmi.addmedia --wget updates

but
urpmi.addmedia --wget updates ftp://.....

pcdwarf : 09/06/02 12:47 AM : More info provided

pcdwarf : 09/06/02 12:48 AM : More info provided
-   I just add a comment
look at the previous message....

pcdwarf : 09/06/02 12:53 AM : More info provided
-   it seems --wget does not exist on this version...
I tried to replace it with "--update" and to put a name "mysource" before the url

It made lot of things and apperently donloaded something
When I use the software manager to see if there are files to update, there is nothing
> it's hard to believe > I've got mandrake8.1

Linux-phased : 09/06/02 01:00 AM : More info requested
-   well the just go to that ftp i told you and download the packages manually
into a directory, then setup a new source with the softwaremanager --> local
and as path just select the directory where you downloaded the files to, that
works too.

pcdwarf : 09/06/02 01:01 AM : More info provided
-   Copy-paste is ok
no errors about it
I used the whole line.... (verified)

pcdwarf : 09/06/02 01:02 AM : More info provided
-   hummm...... burtal but efficient....
Ok i'll try it.....

Linux-phased : 09/06/02 01:05 AM : More info requested
-   Ok I just don't understand why the did this stupid thing with passive ftp to
the software manager since half of the users cannot use this update function,
I had this problem myself and it took me 3 hours to find out how to get passed
this with the manuall command and wget.
