-   Every morning I have to reboot, because the machine (X server?) hangs when I try to log in. The machine can still be accessed externally and appears to be running.

I am receiving a message from the cron.daily/msec program that says:

Segmentation fault nice --adjustment= 19 /usr/bin/msec_find ${DIR}

I don't know what is going wrong. Please help.

-   Try reseting your msec level with 'draksec'. You might also avoid rebooting by
switching to a console, logging in as root and running 'init 3' then 'init 5' to restart
the X server.

-   Thanks for the help. I tried resetting msec, but it did not help.

The final fix I made was to uninstall sendmail and adjust a custom cron script I added to be totally quiet (run-parts /etc/cron.hourly > /dev/null 2>&1). Now there is nothing for cron to try to mail as a message, so it works just fine.

This fix is not the optimum way, but I rely on an hourly cron script to update an internal website and auto update PDF documentation based on coworker's contributions via LaTeX and CVS. This machine has to be running flawlessly. So far this is the only significant quirk I have had to work around.

Thanks again.
