maynord : 25/04/02 12:04 AM : Incident created
-   I work at a school where we have multiple users on Mandrake 8.1 and 8.2. the problem is that students can log in on their own accounts, and see each others HOME directories. They can also see the principal's HOME directory. I tried changing the permissions to drwx------, but after about 30 minutes they changed back to drwxr-xr-x by themselves! I tried changing them as root, and also as the user. The problem occurs in 8.1 and 8.2. It occurs on my stand-alone machine at home running 8.2. At school i am using NFS and NIS for the student log-ins. How do I get the HOME directory permissions to stay at drwx------ so that students can't see the contents of other student's HOME directories.

Thanks!

-   I seems that my 8.2 standalone is working OK now. I set it using the security level tool in Control Center. However, I tried the same thing at school, and no matter what level I set the security to, it always goes back to "Cracker" (the server is 8.0). I tried Msec 3 in the terminal - it went through the process of changing everything. But then, in five minutes it had returned to normal(low security), I tried disabling cron, but no luck. Something goes through the system every few minutes and resets the user HOME directory permissions!

-   It is msec that is changing the directory permissions. Edit the 'perm.*' file in
'/usr/share/msec/' for your security level, changing the '/home/' setting to '700'
