- After doing a system upgrade from 8.1 on a test machine (Toshiba Satellite 1.0 GHz processor 128MB RAM and 40 GB HDD) to 8.2 beta2, I loaded a DVD into my DVD-ROM drive and mounted the /mnt/cdrom access point. I opened the CD-ROM icon on the KDE desktop and went to the video_ts directory of the DVD. There I found a number of files that looked like video. I clicked on one of them and the video did come up under Xmovie, but there was no audio. I also had to hold the right arrow key down on the keyboard to get to the end of the file. The next file in the sequence did not load. And neither did the audio. Yet I can play standard audio CDs.

- I decided to go back to 8.1 production code and then installed the Xmovie software on the 8.1 CD set and everything now works. I did notice that the 8.2 Beta 2 HardDrak software did not properly detect the laptop's sound card and one or two other items. The DVD-ROM was detected properly by both versions.
I also noted that the reboot function in 8.2 beta 2 hangs fairly consistently on a black screen. This does not occur in the 8.1 production code.
I am planning to wait for the next beta or final production code whichever comes first and try again. For now I consider this case closed.
