-   I have just recently installed Mandrake 8.1, and am trying to configure Samba? As a newbie, I was told I must run Samba if I am to see this server on my Network Neighbour Hood.
I require a good HowTo for installing and con figuring Samba?
.

-   I appreciate your help with a little more research I found out that samba installation will have to wait until I get the samba 2.2.1 package as this package will have the Windows XP fixes required for the network neighbourhood to see the server.

However I am still looking for a easy to understand how-to on installation and configuration. I have never installed a package since my initial install from CD and the wizard. This is a steep learning curve. 10 years windows networking and switching to Linux.

-   You could try the 2.2.2 version from a Cooker mirror:
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/cookerdevel.php3

These versions should be considered 'beta'.

The quickest way to upgrade would be to download the samba RPMs and do:

# rpm -Uvh samba*rpm

-   I downloaded the files to the KDE desktop, opened a shell and typed the command you gave above and nothing happens. When I downloaded should it matter where I download too.

-   Hi,
have a look at:
http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/connect/csamba.html
