You will want to try gcc
To be more specific you should give it several options such as:
gcc -s -O2 -o foo foo.c
If you wish to know more on the options described, you can type either:
gcc --help
or for more comprehensive help, try:
man gcc
note: you need to press "q" to exit the "man"ual mode
if you do not have gcc installed yet, you can install it using "Configure your computer"
I've attached a graphical picture for someone else on how to load an RPM if you look at
expert help #104580-> http://expert.mandriva.com/question/104580
Hope this gets you going. :-)

I am glad to have helped.
As additional help, sometimes there are local
groups that may be able to help, and having
someone show you may be easier than having
someone explain something on the internet since
text on a webpage or email loses meaning compared
to someone doing it step-by-step in front of you.
There is lists of user groups located here and
you may be lucky enough to have a user group in
your area. http://www.linux.org/groups/
I'm glad to be called a friend. :-)
Thanks,
Jose Da Silva
