-   If you are using KDE, in the KDE Control Center there is a Peripherals option
that allows you to select you camera. You can try whith Digikam too, it
detects or allows to select within a large list of models.

-   En essayant de configuere l'appareil par le centre de contrôle de KDE, j'ia
le message suivant :
"impossible d'initialiser l'appareil photographique. Veuillez vérifier la
configuration du port et vous assurer que l'appareil est bien nranché puis
essayez à nouveau. Détails : mauvais paramètres."

J'ai aussi essayé Digikam mais sans plus de succès.

Je me suis aperçu par ailleurs que je pouvais transférer les photos sous
Gnome, avec nautilus. Alors pourquoi pas sous KDE ?

-   Please, reply me in english or spanish if possible, i can only understand a
few words in french.
Which is your camera model? It's possible it has a 'massive storage' mode or
PTP mode than you can activate to 'see' it like a external memory, or you can
try whith another usb por, maybe you have dual (1.1/2.0) speed ports and you
are trying with the non-appropiate one.

-   OK for the language and thank you for helping me.

The problem remains if I change of USB por.
When working with Gnome and Nautilus, there is no problem to get the pictures
from the memory of my coolpix 995 Nikon camera.

Only when I am under KDE, I have these messages "impossible to read the file"
or wrong parameters.

In the KDE control center, it is possible to choose coolpix 995 as a camera,
but, alas, it cannot be taken into account "wrong parameters" ...

I did not try Digicam under Gnome, but under KDE, it does not work.

-   Have you tryied whith another similar model, maybe coolpix 880, or 990? but
the specification of the model in KDE does not work properly with some
models. I had similar problem but the camera works fine accesing from Digikam.
The only sugestion i can give to you is to update all the packages or wait
for kde4 which is in a very advanced state. You can instead use a card reader
for accessing the files in the memory card.

-   I have EXACTLY the same problem. Though I don't understand much of French
either. My camera Lumix DMC-TZ3 worked brilliantly in mandriva 2007.1 but
when I did a fresh install of 2008, it does not work any more. The camera is
recognized but would not mount at all. Answering to you questions above
- it should connect as mass storage
- digikam does not work
- changing usb port does not work

Now on to dmesg:
usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9
usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
scsi3 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
usb-storage: device found at 9
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning

At this poing kde daemon appears and I choose "browse". Konqueror window
appears and after some time an error popup springs up:
Unknown error code 50
Unspecified error
Please send a full bug report at http://bugs.kde.org
After I click OK on the error the konqueror window shows nothing
system:/media/camera

Exactly the same thing happens when I try to do something in KDE Control
Center / Peripherals. I am getting the same error.

When I choose to open camera with digikam, I get "failed connect to the
camera" error. And it is no wonder since the device sda1 is NOT created at all.

I can see unmounted camera on the desktop but there is no way whatsoever to
mount it.

And it worked excellently in 2007.1. I am really frustrated.

-   In my model, when i plug the camera it shows the task window and ask me to
choose how to do. Well I have to cancel this if i want Digikam connects
correctly to the camera in PTP mode.

-   I want to connect it as 'mass storage'. It should naturally connect as mass
storage, but it does not.

-   Try the way i user, cancel the window when you plug the camera and it
appears, open Digikam, and connect from there.

-   Ok. I did exactly the way you described - the same result as I wrote in my
first post with digikam - "failed connect to the camera".

Camera monitor says "Checking connection with PC..." and stays like this
forever. Note, I am not using usb cords or something like that, just a small
cable USB - mini-USB, so it can't be that USB port lacks power.

Clearly it is mandriva 2008 problem.

Dima_Ol_3994 : 09/11/07 06:23 PM : More info requested
-   A small note. Both the system itself and digikam package recognize the camera
correctly, but unable to connect to it.

comecocos_3420 : 12/11/07 10:51 AM : More info requested
-   I think power is not the problema, because you are using the camera whith
batteries ¿aren't you? and the power is supplied with the port and I think
the cable doesn´t mind if it's a stardard USB cord.

Dima_Ol_3994 : 12/11/07 11:35 AM : More info requested
-   Yes, I think so too. But what is the problem...? I don't have the slightest
idea...

comecocos_3420 : 12/11/07 01:11 PM : More info requested
-   Mmm, i have no more resources for this problem, maybe you can read syslog
output when you plug the camera.
You can read in the console, the output of the system messages with "tail -f
/var/log/messages" (Ctrl C to stop), and plug/unplug the camera while the
command is executing.

-   Ok, now my another notebook is back from repairs, and it has kubuntu gutsy
installed with kde 3.5.8.... And... Just the same problem here. So, it is not
mandirva's but kde problem which unfortunately persists onto 3.5.8 release.....

comecocos_3420 : 12/11/07 01:49 PM : More info requested
-   At least KDE 4 is near :-/ Maybe it corrects de problem.
